Reece joined Barnardo's Works in September 2018. He then progressed through Employability Funds 2 and 3, and is now studying for his MA!
He attended the Canal College programme run in conjunction with Scottish Waterways Trust in 2018 and progressed from this programme onto Barnardo’s Works Employability Fund Stage 2 and 3 in 2019. Reece was interested in gaining a trade and through participation in our Employability Fund programme we were able to help him progress onto an MA in Roofing through local employers Macleod Roofing Ltd.
my apprenticeship offers me the flexibility of practical on-site experience and study which I enjoy. Attending Barnardo’s Works helped me realise I had what it takes to be successful and I am grateful for this opportunity.

Dave MacKinnon one of Reece's employers, said:
“Reece started with Macleod Roofing Ltd at the end of May 2019 and has shown enthusiasm, a good understanding and he is keen to learn, motivated and a good time keeper. He continues to improve his skills and listens to his supervisors on site and is always eager to engage in whatever task he is given. He has always shown a good understanding of the different materials he uses and the applications. We look forward to Reece becoming a good tradesman”.
Quote from Eric Robertson of Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B)
I first met Reece through the Barnardo’s programme and my first impression was he always had a smile on his face. Reece has now entered the world of work in the position of an Apprentice Roof, Slater and Tiler. It is fair to say that the support and guidance he received from the Barnardo’s Programme prepared him for the work place.
Initially Reece was slightly apprehensive and lacking a bit of self- confidence however having been on the Apprenticeship programme for 6 months he is making very good progress. He displays more self -confidence and self -belief.
