More than one in four children in the UK live in poverty, and the cost-of-living crisis is making this worse.
Right now, parents are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table. Families are finding it difficult to afford essential items like beds and bedding and are reducing how much they shower or wash their clothes in order to save on utility costs.
Over half of children and young people (52%) worry about whether they or their family have enough money to spend on essentials.
At Barnardo’s, we are responding to this crisis with urgency. Our frontline staff make sure families can access food and other essentials. We also provide ongoing support by helping to find suitable accommodation, and empowering families with access to longer term financial advice to set them up for a better future.
We’re asking people to do what they can to raise vital funds to help families in need to feel supported in the coming months.

We’ve had to go to food banks and have been supported by Barnardo’s with food vouchers. I’ve been cutting back on the amount and quality of the food shopping and I have gone without to make sure my daughter has a proper meal.
