Volunteering with Barnardo’s gave me a leg up in my career after I had finished studying, when I had no real other direction. The experience and knowledge I’ve gained inside the Barnardo’s archive and with the Making Connections service is unparalleled. There is nothing more motivating than knowing what we do here genuinely helps real people. I’ve been able to develop real working skills with welcoming team, which will no doubt shape my prospects.

Here are some of the ways you could help change lives

Go digging in our archives

Our Making Connections team offer a family history service and you could help people find out about their past.

 ....Or prefer digging for treasure?

Our online retail researchers support our stores, finding items more suited for online sale. You could help research the items and prepare them for transport to the online sales department.

I really enjoy volunteering in Barnardo’s Making Connections service as an archival researcher. The historical records are fascinating, and it’s great to put the skills from my former working life to good use. The environment is very friendly and supportive, and it’s rewarding to know that the work I’m doing will help researchers using the service in the future.
