DSI Service - Group Work

What we do

BUZZ CLUBS are a specialist youth group and are a vibrant and welcoming space designed specifically for children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs. These groups are for young people aged 12 to 18, to come together, build friendships, and explore their potential in a nurturing environment.

These groups are for up to 6 young people who live within the East Riding of Yorkshire and referrals are made through the East Riding commissioner.

HIVE sessions take place on a monthly basis for families with a child/young person with SEND. The session is inclusive for all members of the family and includes a cookery demonstration, alongside many other fun activities such as arts and crafts, sensory play and outdoor games.

Family sessions can have up to 6 families in attendance and this social opportunity allows families to share resources, community support, and form meaningful relationships with others who understand their experiences. Hive family sessions can play a crucial role in promoting understanding, support, and resilience within the family unit, ultimately enhancing the well-being of all members.

BUZZ Youth Group (Wednesday) - the service offers a fortnightly group for young people with SEND aged 16-25 years. This group is an opportunity to help young adults develop life skills as well as communication skills to express their preferences, ask for help when needed, facilitate opportunities, and promote social interaction, friendship, and positive role modelling. This group recognises and celebrates progress, no matter how small as positive reinforcement boosts confidence and motivation, encouraging young adults to continue working towards greater independence. The goal for this group is to have fun together with friends!
