CEO emphasises importance of engaging with children
As the Independent review of gender identity services for children and young people is published, Barnardo's CEO Lynn Perry MBE has shared her thoughts:
“All children and young people need space to safely explore their identities, as well as access to the right, high quality health and care when needed. We therefore welcome the Cass Review’s recommendation that transgender and gender questioning children and young people should have access to consistent, local services that bring together health and social care professionals to provide personalised support up to age 25.
“Support for children and young people must reflect their experiences, and we would urge all decision makers to engage closely with children, as well as their families and professionals, as they develop services.”
