Five co -workers from the retail chain IKEA in Bristol have cycled halfway to Birmingham in the ‘Meet Me Halfway’ challenge to meet colleagues from IKEA Birmingham in aid of children’s charity Barnardo’s.

Barnardo’s supports some of the UK’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.

The two teams met at the Royal Hop Pole Hotel in Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, the fifty-mile, halfway point for both teams.

The sponsored cycle took five hours and the teams celebrated with a well earnt drink and a rest. The group have raised a fantastic £513.00 and counting.

Sam Whaites from IKEA Bristol who organised the event said:

"I had a wonderful time, and it was a real pleasure to help support on the day. We raised a fantastic amount, which will go towards a wonderful cause helping young people across the UK. Thank you to all those that donated, supported and most importantly, cycled for this event."

Duncan Stanway, Barnardo’s Assistant Director of Children’s Services in Bristol said:

“We are extremely grateful to IKEA colleagues for taking on this challenge to support vulnerable children and young people.

“In Bristol we support children in various ways including those who are at risk of sexual exploitation and where there are concerns about their involvement in serious youth violence and criminal exploitation.

“The work we deliver is vital to improving children’s lives and money raised from the Meet Me Halfway challenge will help us to continue supporting young people in Bristol and beyond.”
