Barnardo's Chief Executive Lynn Perry responds to Government announcements
Earlier this week, the Government announced new measures to tackle child sexual abuse and implement recommendations from the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).
Lynn Perry said:
“Hundreds of thousands of children are sexually abused in the UK every year, suffering trauma that can profoundly impact the rest of their lives. These offences happen in every community, in every part of the UK, at home, outside the home, and online.
“We welcome the government’s decision to create a new child protection authority in response to the recommendation of the Independent Inquiry on Child Sexual Abuse.
“We are delighted that the Independent Child Trafficking Guardianship Service (ICTG), which Barnardo’s has delivered since 2014, is being expanded to cover the whole of England, whilst continuing to cover all of Wales. The scheme has supported almost 10,000 children who have been trafficked and exploited and continues to work with some of the children and young people in our society who are most at risk of harm."
