The Home Secretary has launched a Tackling Domestic Abuse Plan which aims to tackle perpetrators, prevent domestic abuse from happening in the first place and help all victims and survivors.

Barnardo's Chief Executive Lynn Perry MBE said:

“One in five children are thought to be victims of domestic abuse, causing trauma that can last a lifetime.

“We welcome the Government’s focus on tackling this issue, and especially the increased funding for specialist support for child victims.

“While this is an important step forward, making this vital support available to all children who need it will require substantial and multi-year resourcing.

“We look forward to working with the Government to ensure the forthcoming Victim’s Bill includes the right to access timely, community-based support for the whole family."
