Interviews with 20 young people aged 18-25 supported by Barnardo’s, and a workshop with six practitioners, reveals young people leaving care do not receive adequate support or preparation for independent living.
Young people going to live independently straight from care experience particular challenges, and many describe the impact on their wellbeing. The findings highlight the importance of supported lodgings, holistic support, and flexibility between children’s and adult’s housing services.
