Young people deserve better mental health support. To understand the real experiences of those who rely on NHS mental health services, we gathered 245 responses from young people across the country. Their voices are powerful, honest, and urgent. This report reflects their stories—their struggles, frustrations, and hopes for change. It highlights the barriers they face, from long waiting times to inadequate support for neurodivergent individuals. We also offer clear recommendations on how services can be improved to meet the needs of the young people they are meant to help.
This report is written by members of our NHS England Young Researchers 2024-25 cohort (mental health subgroup), a group of young people passionate about improving health services for young people across the country.
