Barnardo's HYPE. Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire.

What we do

Barnardo’s HYPE puts young people's voice at the heart of children's health and care in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

The service supports three young people's health councils:-
- Mental Health Voice
- Neurodivergent Voice
- Black and Brown Minds Matter.

We welcome young people up to the age of 25 living in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire with relevant life experience including:-

- experience of mental health services
- being neurodivergent (autism and ADHD)
- care experience
- accessing community health services

Our council groups are safe, welcoming and friendly. Young people design their own projects based on their shared lived experience of what is important to them. Our projects involve films, campaigns, workshops, events and presentations. We invite health service leaders in to hear our key messages and to help us create change.

Young people earn vouchers, online badges and develop in confidence as they learn new skills.

We are ambitious for real and lasting change as demonstrated by our health manifesto (https://www.barnardoshype.org/healthmanifesto)

We can help with

    Rights and participation

  • Children and young people have a right to be heard and involved in decisions about them, so we enable and support them to participate in decision making processes.
  • Search for Rights and participation services
  • Mental health

  • No child should be left to deal with poor mental health alone so we provide services supporting children and young people's emotional health and wellbeing. We have centres where children and young people can visit and have a trained worker they can trust and talk to. We help them build their confidence and get to the root of their difficulties so they can feel safer, happier, healthier and more hopeful.
